CLKSYNCH - Version 2.01 Copyright 1988,94 by Steven M. Ryckman

The time is now:

If you are like most people in these modern times, the one thing that none
of us can afford to loose is time. Timing is everything in this computer
oriented world we live in. Show up for a job interview five minutes late
and you may have lost your opportunity. Call long distance a minute before
evening rates start and you pay twice as much. Trust your computers clock
to stay on time..... you might as well just turn it off.
Unfortunately the clocks in most computers drift worse than a cheap
wrist watch. The manufacturers just don't seem to think it's worth
the added expense to put a decent clock in computers. Sure there are
add on hardware cards with their own clock that will help keep the
time more accurate but they are expensive.
Use CLKSYNCH on a regular basis however, and your computer will stay
on time. What CLKSYNCH does is call either of two known services which
exist that output the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT for short). GMT time
is used because it is at 0 degrees longitude and is exactly half way
around the earth from the International Date Line. All time zones
around the world are somewhere between 12 hours behind or 12 hours ahead
of GMT at any given moment. These two services provide (free of charge
for the price of the phone call only) a 1200 baud modem output with
the GMT time output once every second. CLKSYNCH deciphers this output
then adjusts your computers clock accordingly.
Does using CLKSYNCH sound complicated ? It isn't. All you need is
this program, your computer and a modem connected to a phone line.
There is only one screen of options that you need to configure but
on-line help and pick-lists are available through-out it.
How much does it cost ? Well, it's true, CLKSYNCH is NOT free. But it
comes at what I'd like to think as a very fair price of only $ 10.00
for the postcard registration. CLKSYNCH is "Shareware" which means you
may try it for 30 days on your own, if you like it, send the registration
money in, if you don't like it erase it off your system and you didn't
have to pay for it. That's why shareware is commonly referred to as
"Try before you buy" software.
Why did I write CLKSYNCH ? Well, as the author of several shareware
utilities and my involvment with several BBS's and organizations
around the globe, time is critical to me. The clock on my Wyse 386
system looses 10-15 minutes a week and that's un-acceptable to me.
I originally wrote CLKSYNCH in December of 1988 but I never released
that version (1.00) to the public. Only myself and some friends
used it as it was not user friendly at all. Over the years I've looked
at several other programs people wrote to synchronize with the time
services and all of them were missing something or another it seemed.
OK, I like what I've read so far..... now what ? If youv'e read
this file this far, you are obviously interested in keeping your
computer's clock accurate. The on-line help should be sufficient
for most users or you can read the CLKSYNCH.DOC file for information
on configuring and using CLKSYNCH.
Sincerely,
Steve Ryckman, President
